The Schwinn Recumbent Exercise Bike
The Schwinn recumbent exercise bike is a major part of the Schwinn exercise bike product line. Recumbent bikes have gained in popularity for several reasons and Schwinn has obviously put a lot of work into the design of these bikes.
Recumbent exercise bikes are popular for several reasons. Comfort is one big reasons. Many people find upright bikes uncomfortable, mainly in the seat area. A good recumbent bike has a very comfortable seat that adjusts to anyone. Since you're seated comfortably and pedaling in front of you, there's minimum joint strain and very little pressure on the rider's back either.
Most recumbent bikes have quiet magnetic drives that are all but silent. Combine that quiet with a comfortable seat and you can do several things while you ride. You can read, watch TV or movies and listen to music. Doing something in addition to pedaling is a way to fight boredom. Boredom is one reason many stop using exercise bikes.
There are several different Schwinn recumbent bikes. One of the most popular is the Model 230. The 230 is a mid-price bike though it is one of the most expensive Schwinn models. The drive is magnetic and is virtually silent. The bike has 16 levels of resistance plus 6 preset programs and 10 profile sources. So you have enough workout options to keep you busy. If you want more workout options you can choose the Model 231 which has 23 workout programs.
This Schwinn recumbent exercise bike is made with very low bars joining the front and rear so most anyone can get on the bike. It's just a step through design for seating.
When choosing any exercise bike, first make sure the bike is heavy enough and well built so it won't move around as you ride and eventually come apart. Then make sure the electronics does what you want. Programmable workouts aren't necessary, but workout programs add fun to workouts.
There are many manufacturers of great recumbent exercise bikes, but Schwinn is a leader in value. You can get a lot of bike for the money with a Schwinn.

The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike - Is it Worth the Price?
The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Exercise Bike is one of the two highest priced Schwinn recumbent bikes. Now these are still very much mid-price bikes. These two models are hundreds and even thousands of dollars less than some top-of-the-line bikes. But Schwinn has long been known for offering good value throughout their product line.
The 230 has most of the features you expect. You get a easy step through frame so anyone can easily get on. This model is especially noted for its comfortable seat. That seat plus the recumbent design make the bike much more comfortable than a typical upright bike.
The resistance is a magnetic system which is one reason why this bike is quiet, almost silent. The resistance is adjustable at 16 different levels. Plus you get programming for different workouts. There are 6 different preset programs plus 10 profile courses. The instrument panel is well designed and easy to read. The Schwinn 231 bike is just like the 230 except it has a cooling fan and more program features. The 231 has 23 programs. In either case you have enough programming functions to fight exercise boredom. Boredom stops many exercise bike plans.
Reviews of the bike are mostly very positive. The bike is solid, though it does wobble a bit under hard pedaling. The heart rate monitor is slow to display a stable reading. A Polar wrist watch monitor is much faster. Maybe a Polar telemetry option like on many gym machines could be a future feature.
The Model 230 like many other Schwinn exercise is a lot of machine for the money. It's a good choice for a recumbent exercise bike.

About Life Fitness
What started as one man's pursuit to improve his own physical condition, eventually turned into a global fitness revolution. That man was Keene P. Dimick, the mastermind behind the legendary Lifecycle® exercise bike. The story of Life Fitness began when two young entrepreneurs, Ray Wilson and Augie Nieto, saw the promise of Dr. Dimick’s invention. Even though it was slightly ahead of its time, they believed the Lifecycle exercise bike could help generations of athletes, trainers, exercisers, and people everywhere live happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
Wilson and Nieto bought the rights to the Lifecycle bike from Dr. Dimick, perfected it, and sold it out of a motor home to health clubs across America. Despite the overwhelming odds and initial unpopularity of the Lifecycle exercise bike, the two passion-filled pioneers turned a two-man operation and a seemingly impossible vision into a prosperous reality. Along the way, they shaped the future of Life Fitness as well as the fitness industry, bringing cardiovascular training into the mainstream and helping ignite the health club boom.
Today, Life Fitness is the global leader in designing and manufacturing a full line of reliable, high quality fitness equipment for commercial and consumer use. It is the number one brand of fitness equipment in health clubs worldwide.
